In the months leading up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the Green Point (GP) and Orange-Kloof (OK) City Improvement Districts (CIDs) partnered with African Brothers Football Academy to launch the OUR 2010 Campaign. The aim of the campaign is to motivate local businesses to invest in the sustainable development of our communities through football.
Money raised is being used to pay the monthly membership fees for underprivileged children to attend African Brothers Football Academy; giving them the opportunity to play football in a safe environment, develop their skills under the guidance of experienced coaches and interact with other children from different cultures and backgrounds.
To kick off the campaign, the GP and OK CIDs donated R6 000 to cover the membership fees for 30 children for one month. Donations from businesses within the OK and GP CID districts are being used to sustain these membership fees going forward. This will be a significant contribution to African Brothers Football Academy’s vision to unite, bridge cultural divides and uplift our communities.
Sponsors to date include Harley-Davidson Cape Town, DHK architects, City Build It and Andiamo. To make a donation or find out how you can get involved please contact us at info@gpcid.co.za.
